40th Anniversary of the Inter Cities Fairs Cup

It is 40 years to the day where NUFC won our last trophy, the 1969 Inter Cities Fairs Cup
Bobby Moncur lifting the cup

The 1968/69 Inter Cities Fairs Cup is the last major trophy to be won by NUFC. The finals were played over 2 legs, against the Hungarian side Újpesti Dórza. NUFC won the first leg 3-0, and the 2nd leg 3-2 after coming back from 2 goals down. In the 2nd leg, Toon captain Bobby Moncur turned the match around at the start of the 2nd half by scoring within a minute of the restart.

We would like to pay tribute to these heroes who brought back the last trophy for NUFC.
And no disrespect to them, we hope that the record of Bobby Moncur being the last NUFC captain to lift a major trophy would be broken in the near future.
