O' Neill dismisses Owen link

Martin O' Neill has come out and denied that Aston Villa has made a £50,000 per week offer for Michael Owen. AVFC has issued an official statement that Martin O' Neill has not offered any contract to Michael Owen.

"Martin O'Neill has this evening dismissed stories suggesting Villa have offered Michael Owen a two-year contract."

Newspaper reports have linked Michael Owen to Aston Villa and Everton, with some reports suggesting that Owen has to take a pay cut to about £70,000 a week in order to join one of the clubs. However, with Martin coming out publicly and stating that he has not made an offer for Michael, the only viable destination for Michael would be to Everton, where David Moyes reportedly is weighing up an offer for him.

Owen finished as the top scorer of Newcastle last season, with 10 goals, but suffered a goal drought for the 2nd half of the season, not scoring since Jan 11. His goals would have come in handy as we fought relegation.

One thing is for sure: Owen will not be at NUFC next season as he is a free agent.
