Coyle dismissed suggestions that he was interested in Damien Duff, stating that he would rather invest in younger talents that are able to develop than experienced professionals
"I read a report linking us with Damien Duff, but he would be nowhere within our reach. I have always targeted younger players, among others, in the hope they can improve"
We know that Damien is on £70k a week, and that is way out of the wage structure of many clubs, not just Burnley. Over the past 2 seasons, he has looked a shadow of his former self, who used to tear down the wings at Blackburn and Chelsea.
Many clubs who were recently promoted bought big but in the end went into a spiral - Bradford City anyone? Possibly Coyle's method of targeting youngsters would work, we will wait and see. But one thing that further mentioned in the report is for sure. The upper management at Burnley will never make the same mistakes as Mike Ashley did.
"When you see clubs falling apart, Newcastle for example, most people would lay the blame at Mike Ashley's door. He has probably mis-managed the club in a sense, and that has drifted down to the players. There is a lot of disharmony there. It is about getting the belief and the stability at the top, getting a positive way of thinking, getting people who surround the players, and make them feel good about being there."
We haven't had much stability since Sir Bobby was sacked, and we hope that finally, Newcastle can enter into a period of stability after Ashley sells up.
