Per Ciljan Skjelbred

The Evening Chronicle has reported that Per Ciljan Skjelbred still wants to sign for NUFC despite our relegation.
Per Ciljan Skjelbred - A Norwegian Geordie

It is reported that Per Ciljan Skjelbred, a transfer target last summer, is still interested in joining NUFC despite interest from Premier League clubs such as Fulham, Tottenham and Sunderland. This kid is on Alan Shearer's radar, and he wants desperately to sign for NUFC despite it being in limbo right now, and is prepared to wait for the whole Cashley-gate to be sorted out.

A source close to Skjelbred stated that:

"He is unconcerned about Newcastle’s relegation, as he’s certain they’ll be back up in the Premier League after only one season in the Championship. And he is hoping to get to play for Alan Shearer, who is one of his heroes. There was talk of a move to Sunderland, but he has his heart set on Newcastle. If he doesn’t go to Newcastle, he is unlikely to sign for their greatest rivals."

If this person is hellbent on joining the Geordies, and is as good as the reports say he is, I say we should sign him up. Chronicle puts the value of the transfer at $5million, but Skjelbred would only take home approximately £8k a week. if you compare that to Geremi, that's £2.5million less per year. If Mike Ashley could go behind Keegan's back to sign new players, he should definitely secure this signing right now.

The report further mentions that NUFC has missed out on 5 players. I am unable to fathom which of the 5 players we have missed out on, as our 2 known targets, Chris Gunter and Jermaine Beckford, are currently still at their clubs.
